New Arrival: August '25 Aeroclassics

A few months ago, I put off buying Aeroclassics because of several manufacturing defects and QC issues that put a real damper on collecting from that brand. The August wave was just too enticing. The 707 returns this month, and so does the 'new' 727-200 casting. We also got a nice spread of A310s and Caravelles. I could have picked up at least two more aircraft this month, but settled on five. While Aeroclassics certainly isn't leading the way in some categories, it's the best in others. Read on...

Aeroclassics lives and dies based on their ability to make and create models that no one else is. That was true ten years ago, it's still true now. Lately, a variety of new manufacturers have been getting in on the 1/400 scale world of model aircraft. Some newer companies like Panda Models, and Yu Models have been creating moulds made to challenge the market share that has belonged to Aeroclassics for years. Several of these castings, like the Yu Model A300 have been slow to get going. While they do show promise, Aeroclassics is still the top dog in the classics category, for now.

This month, Aeroclassics brings ten models from every major continent except Australia. There are four moulds and nine airlines representing several of the last decades. Of the groups shown to the right, I picked up half. I easily could have gone for more were it not for budgetary restraints. All of the models arrived in good condition except for the American Trans Air 707 which unfortunately has all of the paint chipped off of the lower radome. Four out of five isn't terrible, but for the price, still not ok.

Notes:
I was nervous to place an order for Aeroclassics models this month. I felt like I had really gotten burned back in April with some truly disappointing QC issues. I can't give Aeroclassics full marks in that department this month, but it was substantially better. At this point, everyone knows who Aeroclassics are, and who they aren't. Even if they don't have modern moulds, they could really keep their public perception high if they just dedicated themselves to good workmanship. This is truly a great selection of models, and the best group I've gotten in a long time. The Ecuatoriana is especially stunning, and the Alitalia 727 is one I've wanted for a long time, but the last time an Alitalia 727 was produced was in 2014, over ten years ago, and I missed it. It will be a lot of fun to dig through these releases in the coming days. Several of these models will be up on the Photo of the Day page soon.
