Aeroclassics has been pumping out 727-2s since 2004. They have on record, over 200 known examples. But finally, in 2025, Aeroclassics has announced that they've upgraded their mould. If you're having a difficult time telling exactly what's been upgraded, you're not alone. The Aeroclassics improvements have been minor. They have gone ahead and improved the APU, making it slimmer, and more accurate. A nice detail I admit. But they have also apparently improved the landing gear. It's meant to be more durable, and less prone to separation between wheels and axels. The mould is still a cradle mount however, and there isn't any real meaningful innovation going on. It's really a trivial series of improvements and the mould really only remains relevant because no one aside from JC/Gemini Jets are releasing 727s, and this casting is a better one overall. There have only ever been two 727-200s made to represent the four that flew at one time or another for Air Jamaica. This is the only version representing Air Jamaica's original livery The other, 6Y-JMN, represents the more colorful and recent livery that was made iconic in the 80's. (Both versions are pictured farther down). That version was made on the inferior Gemini Jets casting in January of 2001. The real thing: 6Y-JMA, (later registered and pictured as VR-CMA), touching down on runway 27L at Miami International in 1986. (Photograph courtesy of Johan Ljungdahl, Airliners.net). Notes:
The Air Jamaica 727 featured here was brought to market in April of 2025. The model is limited to under 200 units. The new features to the mould are appreciated, but don't alter the perceived standard of the casting. Gladly, my copy is free from any major error or defects. This is the first Air Jamaica model of 2025, and the 25th made since 1999 when Dragon wings created the first 1/400 scale model for the airline, an A320 registered N624AJ. I'm hoping to expand my Air Jamaica fleet in the coming months, so this is a great addition to the collection.
