This is the 1592nd MD-80 off of the Ling Beach production line. In her lifetime, she's served with about nine different companies in both Europe, Africa, North, and South America. The real thing: Aeromexico MD-83, registered N848SH on final to KLAS (McCarran International) on February 17th, 2011. (Photograph by Klaus Eker, Airliners.net) Notes:
By the time this model was produced, the 1/1 version had been out of the Aeromexico Travel fleet for nearly seven years. That's a decent amount of space in time between reality, and this model coming to fruition. The real life version has been with number of interesting suitors and at the time of writing this post, is 35 years old, and sitting in storage with perhaps its final days soon approaching. The Gemini tooling is not the greatest of what's available, but this is a very unique little model, and I'm happy to have it. This is the only 1/400 scale model of this airframe.
