Diecast Update: Week of 9/21/26

It's been a long while since we've seen a full fledge physical altercation on pit road after a Cup race, but after a series of on track fireworks during the Bristol night race, Ryan Blaney and Carson Hocevar went head to head. After a short but very physical confrontation, Carson Hocevar turned to rile the fans as other Cup drivers watched and yelled in disapproval. The past 72 hours have been a media frenzy, but I'm making sure all of the new and interesting diecast cars that have been announced by Lionel Racing get the attention they deserve! One of the best evolutions that Nascar has undergone in the past few years has been the return to running the Brickyard 400. Looking back, the decision to abandon that race in favor if the Indi road course was misguided. While the discussion this week will inevitably be, why can't cars pass at Indianapolis, the recognition should center around the stunning accomplishments and skill of the fourth 23XI team with Corey Heim at the helm. The preorders are open for Heim's Field and Stream Camry, but there's also other 1/64 offerings to look at this week, and one big surprise. Read on.

This week there are eleven new 1/64 Nascar diecast race cars that have been announced by Lionel Racing that are now up for preorder. Following a predictable week in wine country, SVG blitzed the field in both the Cup series and the O'Reilly series to collect two more road course trophies. Both of those cars top off the week's list of interesting, and unique announcements. A cool collaboration between RFK and Trimble, a Space Jam Camry, and even a Clint Bowyer diecast are all on the docket. This week was supposed to be a big one for Nascar. An incredible amount of effort was put into designing, creating, and promoting the San Diego street course that was situated on the Coronado U.S. Navy base in San Diego. This past week was filled with some unexpected announcements from Lionel Racing along with some very long awaited 1/64 scale releases. In our 22nd issue of 2026, there's a ton of important information to go over. This week features two new raced diecast cars, and a plethora of other interesting selections. There are new standard paint schemes from each of the top three series, and each of the major manufacturers are represented. It's finally been a down week here in the 1/64 world of Nascar collecting. For several weeks, the car count has been at or around 15-20 cars, and things have finally slowed down a bit. That may be a bit of a disappointment for you, but this blogger could use the slowdown. Either way, it's been an interesting week for Nascar, and the main story is that Denny Hamlin continues on with his climb up the all time wins list. Justin Allgaier and Layne Riggs also add to their trophy collection and a trio of primary colored cars head off this week's edition with other standard schemes and more.

Diecast Update: Week of 5/4/2026

After a week off, we're back with tons of new diecast material from Lionel Racing to take a closer look at. There have been many new 1/64 scale diecast cars that have been queued up for preorder. There's no doubt that Lionel will be setting records this week with Carson Hocevar's massive first career win at Talladega, and then he followed that up with another win in the Truck series for Spire at Texas. Not only that, Nascar's most popular driver, Chase Elliott also notched a win as well. Race number six of the 2026 season is over and while the main event didn't bring the chaotic action many anticipated, the race still delivered some spectacular and memorable moments. It was good to hear and see Darrell Waltrip in the booth again to deliver his signature 'Boogity, Boogity, Boogity, Let's go racing, boys!' After 16 lead changes, and four cautions, Tyler Reddick would claim his fourth trophy of the season and his raced diecast heads off a bumper week for Lionel Racing. This past week was relatively uneventful, but also a truly historic one in the world of Nascar. Two races occurred at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, and two of the most likely victors walked away with the trophies. Kyle Larson went 1 for 1 on his NOAPS efforts for 2026. Larson led 47 laps and solidified his 18th win in the series. But the bigger story was Denny Hamlin's return to victory lane to claim his 61st win. Just like the snow that’s spread across North Carolina this week, the announcements went from bust, to boom! Last week, we only had six new preorder models to choose from. This week, we have a staggering 14 new cars to cover. There’s a ton of great content that both the Nascar teams and Lionel Racing are putting out. This is an especially significant week for Toyota fans, Front Row Motorsports fans, and Trackhouse Racing fans with multiple releases for each area. Denny Hamlin 2020 "Fedex 1973" Throwback Camry

Anyone who has followed Denny Hamlin's career knows exactly how much of a threat he is at Darlington. Hamlin's prolific career holds many highlights, and some great wins. There aren't many places where Denny has won more often, and there's nowhere that Hamlin has a better average finish (7.5).

Since 2015 Nascar has created a tradition of making the Southern 500 the annual throwback weekend. Hamlin and the Joe Gibbs Racing #11 Fedex Team has never skipped an opportunity to appreciate a part of Nascar history by always carrying a throwback scheme.
