Diecast Update: Week of 9/21/26

It's been a long while since we've seen a full fledge physical altercation on pit road after a Cup race, but after a series of on track fireworks during the Bristol night race, Ryan Blaney and Carson Hocevar went head to head. After a short but very physical confrontation, Carson Hocevar turned to rile the fans as other Cup drivers watched and yelled in disapproval. The past 72 hours have been a media frenzy, but I'm making sure all of the new and interesting diecast cars that have been announced by Lionel Racing get the attention they deserve! Starting the 2026 Nascar Chase for the Cup at Darlington Raceway with the Southern 500 is about as good as you can get. I was fortunate enough to be in attendance at the 63rd running of this Nascar crown jewel, and as Christopher Bell took the checkered flag for his 14th career win, it was time to turn our attention to a stacked week of Nascar 1/64 diecast. Between new 2026 1/64s with the Nascar Chase banner, to Red Bull LMSCs, to some nice support series offerings, there's a ton to dig into this week, and as per usual, there's sure to be something that catches your attention. And just like that, the 26 races that make up the Nascar regular season have concluded and the Nascar Chase for the championship is about to begin. After several years of chaotic and seemingly unbalanced results that impacted the playoffs and overshadowed the results of one of the most unpredictable races of the year, some refinement in the points system, and the way teams and drivers could qualify for the playoffs has been repaired. Even though Nascar was off this week, Lionel Racing made sure there were still plenty of new and interesting 1/64 scale Nascar diecast cars to pay attention to. They also gave collectors a number of raced diecast from the previous week that didn't originally get announcements. Among some of the newly posted raced versions of several cars, there are some great 2026 standard schemes, a few of those could even contended for scheme of the year honors. This past week was filled with some unexpected announcements from Lionel Racing along with some very long awaited 1/64 scale releases. In our 22nd issue of 2026, there's a ton of important information to go over. This week features two new raced diecast cars, and a plethora of other interesting selections. There are new standard paint schemes from each of the top three series, and each of the major manufacturers are represented. This week we also get the return of Project 91 to mark the 38th different Cup team that's been given at least one preorder for 2026. There's all that and more in this week's article. Read on!

It's finally been a down week here in the 1/64 world of Nascar collecting. For several weeks, the car count has been at or around 15-20 cars, and things have finally slowed down a bit. That may be a bit of a disappointment for you, but this blogger could use the slowdown. Either way, it's been an interesting week for Nascar, and the main story is that Denny Hamlin continues on with his climb up the all time wins list. Justin Allgaier and Layne Riggs also add to their trophy collection and a trio of primary colored cars head off this week's edition with other standard schemes and more.

After a week off, we're back with tons of new diecast material from Lionel Racing to take a closer look at. There have been many new 1/64 scale diecast cars that have been queued up for preorder. There's no doubt that Lionel will be setting records this week with Carson Hocevar's massive first career win at Talladega, and then he followed that up with another win in the Truck series for Spire at Texas. Not only that, Nascar's most popular driver, Chase Elliott also notched a win as well. There's a lot of great looking cars in each of the top four series to review, so for that and much more, read on.

We are nine races into the 2026 season, and history was made once more this weekend at Kansas when Tyler Reddick matched a record previously held only by the great Dale Earnhardt. Winning five of the first nine races is an incredible feat. Reddick and 23XL are running away with the points lead. Turning our attention to the latest 1/64 scale Nascar offerings, there is a much more modest selection this week of new race cars, but I'm sure next week's edition will more robust with Talladega up next. Race number six of the 2026 season is over and while the main event didn't bring the chaotic action many anticipated, the race still delivered some spectacular and memorable moments. It was good to hear and see Darrell Waltrip in the booth again to deliver his signature 'Boogity, Boogity, Boogity, Let's go racing, boys!' After 16 lead changes, and four cautions, Tyler Reddick would claim his fourth trophy of the season and his raced diecast heads off a bumper week for Lionel Racing. Diecast Update: Week of 2/16/26

This was another monster week in the world of 1/64 scale diecast race cars. Special paint schemes, new OEMS, really cool raced diecast all abound in this edition. The 2026 season is officially in full swing. A fantastic week of racing at Daytona has produced some classic race cars that will go down in history. Tyler Reddick capped off the weekend by winning his first Daytona 500. Austin Hill put on another clinic for the O'Reilly field, and Chandler Smith stole the trophy from the rest of the drivers in the Craftsman Truck series.
