Diecast Update: Week of 8/24/26

Sunday's race at New Hampshire had just about everything, rain tires, questionable spin outs, calamitous crashes, and a great battle for the lead at the end of the race. Ultimately, Ryan Blaney was able to hold off a hard charging Bubba Wallace to solidify his third win of the season, and his top five standing going into the Nascar Chase following the summer Daytona race this weekend. Diecast Update: Week of 8/17/26

I have to admit, while the Cook Out 400 at Richmond Raceway last evening kept me engaged, it didn't leave me thrilled. Ryan Blaney started on the pole, and while all of the Team Penske Mustangs ran well, it was Joey Logano who made it to the front and kept the lead for 95 laps including the last one. This is his 39th career win, and the raced version of his Shell/Pennzoil No. 22 Ford is the first of several new 1/64 scale race cars that have been listed for preorder this week. With something to review at every level of stock car racing this week except for the O'Reilly series, let's go!

Diecast Update: Week of 8/10/26

With the summer bye week behind us, it was great to get back to racing at Iowa Speedway. It was announced that the track would be getting a repave that would start right after the race ended on Sunday. I'm undecided on whether or not that would be ideal as even the best drivers with the best cars had trouble navigating the treacherous turns. Ultimately, it was Ty Gibbs, and young crew chief, Tyler Allen who made a race wining call to take two tires on the final stop of the race. Gibbs, who is maturing before our eyes, used the strategy to his advantage to win for a second time this year. For a look at this, and more cars that were posted, read on.

Even though Nascar was off this week, Lionel Racing made sure there were still plenty of new and interesting 1/64 scale Nascar diecast cars to pay attention to. They also gave collectors a number of raced diecast from the previous week that didn't originally get announcements. Among some of the newly posted raced versions of several cars, there are some great 2026 standard schemes, a few of those could even contended for scheme of the year honors. One of the best evolutions that Nascar has undergone in the past few years has been the return to running the Brickyard 400. Looking back, the decision to abandon that race in favor if the Indi road course was misguided. While the discussion this week will inevitably be, why can't cars pass at Indianapolis, the recognition should center around the stunning accomplishments and skill of the fourth 23XI team with Corey Heim at the helm. The preorders are open for Heim's Field and Stream Camry, but there's also other 1/64 offerings to look at this week, and one big surprise. Read on.

It's a bit of a shame that the discussion around Nascar this week has primarily been focused on if North Wilkesboro should have an annual Cup event or not. After years of revival efforts, and a sellout Sunday crowd, a long run of green flag laps, and a Joey Logano drubbing has many talking heads and fans backing away from the lime light. But the weekend should be viewed as nothing but a success for Nascar. Logano's raced version leads off an average week for Lionel Racing. Diecast Update: Week of 7/13/26

According to the Gluck Poll, Atlanta ended up being the best race of the 2026 season. Even after a lengthy rain delay that resulted in a race that started at 7pm resuming well after midnight, the summer Atlanta race yielded great ratings. Ryan Blaney who has been leading the Fords all year, and typically runs very well at Atlanta would not be denied. All race long he was challenged, and all race long he responded. Blaney's raced Bodyarmor Flash IV Mustang leads the way in the 1/64 scale this week, and we've got cars in almost every series up for preorder now. Diecast Update: Week of 7/6/26

For a while, it appeared as though the long awaited Hendrick resurgence was going to happen. William Byron won both of the first and second stages of the race, and led 94 of the 267 laps during the eero 400. Nascar's return to Chicagoland Speedway for the first time since 2019 was however won by JGR driver Chase Briscoe. That raced version, and several other new 1/64 scale cars are now up for preorder from Lionel Racing. Diecast Update: Week of 6/29/26

This week there are eleven new 1/64 Nascar diecast race cars that have been announced by Lionel Racing that are now up for preorder. Following a predictable week in wine country, SVG blitzed the field in both the Cup series and the O'Reilly series to collect two more road course trophies. Both of those cars top off the week's list of interesting, and unique announcements. A cool collaboration between RFK and Trimble, a Space Jam Camry, and even a Clint Bowyer diecast are all on the docket. This week was supposed to be a big one for Nascar. An incredible amount of effort was put into designing, creating, and promoting the San Diego street course that was situated on the Coronado U.S. Navy base in San Diego. In almost every metric, the event was a huge success that both met and exceeded expectations. The 23rd edition of the 2026 Diecast Update is now up and running. There's a bunch of new cars to take a look at this week, but a disappointing detail that we can't overlook is the missing raced version of Denny Hamlin's Pocono car. With the sponsorship of not just Kings Hawaiian, but also Universal's Minions, Lionel has not been given the approval to produce a raced version of Denny's 64th win, a real shame. This past week was filled with some unexpected announcements from Lionel Racing along with some very long awaited 1/64 scale releases. In our 22nd issue of 2026, there's a ton of important information to go over. This week features two new raced diecast cars, and a plethora of other interesting selections. There are new standard paint schemes from each of the top three series, and each of the major manufacturers are represented. It's finally been a down week here in the 1/64 world of Nascar collecting. For several weeks, the car count has been at or around 15-20 cars, and things have finally slowed down a bit. That may be a bit of a disappointment for you, but this blogger could use the slowdown. Either way, it's been an interesting week for Nascar, and the main story is that Denny Hamlin continues on with his climb up the all time wins list. Justin Allgaier and Layne Riggs also add to their trophy collection and a trio of primary colored cars head off this week's edition with other standard schemes and more.

It has been a week of unprecedented sadness in the Nascar world. The sudden and tragic loss of Nascar great, Kyle Busch has left the racing world reeling. The sport that brings so many, so much joy, turned into a nightmare when it was announced on Thursday, May 21st, that Busch had passed away at age 41. Kyle leaves behind a family and the racing community far better off than what he found it, and a legacy that will last forever. We will carry on this week as always, but of course mindfully of what's been lost.

Nascar's All-star race experiment in Dover is over and the racing league now turns their attention to one of the biggest races of the year, The World 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
