Diecast Update: Week of 8/17/26

I have to admit, while the Cook Out 400 at Richmond Raceway last evening kept me engaged, it didn't leave me thrilled. Ryan Blaney started on the pole, and while all of the Team Penske Mustangs ran well, it was Joey Logano who made it to the front and kept the lead for 95 laps including the last one. This is his 39th career win, and the raced version of his Shell/Pennzoil No. 22 Ford is the first of several new 1/64 scale race cars that have been listed for preorder this week. With something to review at every level of stock car racing this week except for the O'Reilly series, let's go!

Raced Version: (Richmond)

Well, in just the last six weeks, Joey Logano has gone from 20th in the points, to 8th. With another dominant short track performance under his belt, Logano owned the second half of Saturday night's race. The 138th Cup race at Richmond the Cook Out 400, was a sold out event that saw long green flag runs and significant tire wear that necessitated multiple pit stops. It was truly a team earned win that notched Logano 23rd on the All-time wins list.

Kaden Honeycutt has become someone to really keep an eye on. From his early days in the CARS Tour, to ARCA, and now to the Truck series, it's been exciting to see the young Texan make a name for himself. His talent earned him an opportunity in the Tricon Garage No. 11 Tundra, and he's turning that opportunity into stats that matter. His second win of the year behind the Safelite Toyota came at Richmond last weekend. This is Truck win #2 for Kaden.

Standard Versions (Cup)

Chevy:

Leading off the Chevy's this week, another new scheme for Chastain. The Jockey 150th Anniversary livery that's made the rounds on several Trackhouse, and Trackhouse affiliated race cars this season is now onboard the No. 1. This car took to the track last weekend at Richmond, and while 2026 has been a down year for Trackhouse, the stalwart Chastain continues to claim respectable finishes in subpar performing cars. This car finished 12th. 

Another car that debuted at Richmond last week was the RCR Morgan & Morgan Chevy driven by Austin Hill. The car was supposed to have been driven by Kyle Busch, but instead honored the late driver and his family's foundation, Bundle of Joy. At a track where we've seen Kyle Busch win so many times, his legacy was on display in this specially themed design. After starting 33rd, Hill gained 10 positions on the ninth and finished 23rd. 

One of the rarest full time drivers to appear in 1/64 scale in 2026, Cole Custer finally receives another offering in the scale. Sysco has been frequently involved in both Cup and O'Reilly races for Custer in the later part of the year including when they and The Smoke Pit jumped onboard for the Cup series' return to North Wilkesboro last month. While the car itself is a bit of a mess in my opinion, it's still nice to have another Haas F.T. available for preorder.

Standard Version (Trucks)

Connor Hall has a couple of part-time rides in both the ARCA series, and in the Truck, series in 2026. He's got two starts so far in the Truck series for Niece Motorsports this year, with his third start scheduled for this upcoming week at Loudon. TownBank and Breeden Concrete are jumped onboard at Richmond Raceway this past week to assist Hall as he drove his No. 4 Silverado to a 22nd place finish on the lead lap. This is a nice accomplishment, and a nice truck!

LMSC/CARS Tour

Keelan Harvick contines to stack up LMSC events in 2026 on both sides of the country. While racing for Rackley W.A.R. on the east coast, Keelan also races for his family owned race team in the CARS Tour West. Trading card company, Panini has claimed real estate on Harvick's West Coast LMSC this summer. While it's nice to see a high profile company active in the lower levels of racing, the car itself is quite underwhelming. 

On the flip side, the other 1/64 scale LMSC offering we've got this week is a much nicer looking Chevy SS that Landon S. Huffman drove on the east coast just a few weeks ago. Throwing it back to his father, Huffman brought his Carroll Speedshop LMSC to Hickory for the major CARS Tour event where he finished in the 13th position. This car looks really nice, and it has the proper race car feel to it. Simple primary colors, good ratios, an interesting sponsor, and it has some flair too. Hope this one gets made.

Drop Preview Report

We've got a visual this week (thanks to Circle B Diecast) of the Richard Petty and Kyle Petty two car pack that was announced back in February. The cars are based on a pretty old tooling, but it's nice to see the 1981 Monte Carlos that Kyle and Richard swapped at Riverside. Having these race cars from the past continue to show up and be available to race fans who are truly dedicated to the history of the sport is invaluable, but I am disappointed to see that the interior of one car uses a gray base, (the #42) and that the No. 43 uses a black base for the interior of the car. I'm not sure why this is, or if it's intentional, or if there's some story behind it, but I don't think it looks great either way.

Conclusion:
It's certainly been a bit of a down week, with just six new preorders not including the two raced versions from Richmond. None of the 1/64 scale cars that are being offered this week are top tier cars in my opinion, but I'm sure there are some meaningful ones this group to other collectors. Historically, Joey Logano's raced win from Richmond is probably the most important car to be announced, and new Trucks for Kaden Honeycutt and Connor Hall feel interesting too. I think that Ross Chastain's Chevy and Landon S. Huffman's LMSC are the best looking of the bunch, and having another Cole Custer car is nice as well. 

That's it for this week, and while there hasn't been too many noteworthy topics following Richmond, there are plenty of new cars that will be announced next week before Loudon that I'm excited to review. I've just received in the mail a copy of Zane Smith's 2026 Aaron's FRM Mustang that I'm hoping to get up on the Review page this week, and I've also got a race weekend planned for the Southern 500.
