1/64 Diecast Update: Week of 9/7/25

Last week at Darlington, Chase Briscoe accomplished something truly historic when he led the majority of the laps and won the Southern 500 for a second time. This is something only seven other drivers have ever accomplished. Briscoe is truly hitting his stride in his new home at JGR. His raced diecast and others are featured on this week's 1/64 Diecast Update. Once again, there are no new Toyotas, but we do get a couple of new Chevy's and a Mustang too. For a closer look at everything being offered this week, read on...

Raced Version: (Darlington)

Any long time Nascar fan should have seen this coming. Chase Briscoe has always been a standout racing talent. When a good driver is stuck on a bad team, and gets an opportunity to drive for an organization like JGR, it's sink or swim. In this case, It's only taken a few months for Briscoe to find his way with the 19 team, and he's become a top threat for this season's championship. The Bass Pro patriotic livery looked great under the lights, and I'm sure it will look great in 1/64 scale as well.

Raced Version: (Portland)

The historic run that Connor Zilisch and the JR Motorsports No. 88 team are on continued last week as the Xfinity season made their annual trip to the west coast for the Portland road course. Zilisch battled with Austin Hill and made a quick decision to choose the runoff area in turn one. The move paid off when the rest of the field went crashing, and Zilisch was able to quickly maneuver the barriers for win number 8.

Chevy:
Last week at Darlington, Hyack Motorsports hosted a first time Nascar sponsorship with PENGU. The NFT collection-turned-crypto community brought the Pudgy Penguins to the No. 47 Chevy for a unique display. This is the 6th 1/64 offering for Stenhouse this year. It seems to have good traction, and I like the chances this one has to make MOQ. Stenhouse started 35th in this car and was able to bring it home five places better by the end of the night.

Alex Bowman is supported by one of the few full-time sponsors left in Nascar. Unfortunately, that means there are fewer interesting liveries. I think that the No. 48's main livery this season is the best so far, but I think this one makes a solid play for second. I've heard some differing opinions on this special 'Open Road Sweepstakes' themed Chevy, but I personally like it. Bowman will pilot this special scheme this Saturday night at Bristol.

Ford:
There haven't been too many Brad liveries this year, but we have already had the 2025 BuildSubmarines Mustang offered. This one is just a bit different because it lists the names of many U.S. military heroes. This livery was run just once this season, last week at Darlington. Brad started in the 32nd position with this car but brought it home 15th. I think I can confidently add that the names on this car will not be legible in this scale.

Conclusion:
A modest selection this week again from Lionel is an indicator that the season is winding down. With just 8 races left, I don't anticipate a flurry of new schemes. But the 2026 liveries are already starting to pop up. We'll be putting together a separate page for those cars soon. It's nice to get some obscure liveries this week. I'm hopeful that both the Hyack Pengu No. 47, and the Ally Sweepstakes Chevys are both produced. That's it for this week's edition of the Diecast Update, see you next week!
