The real thing: Fastenal was the launch partner of the 17 team for the 2024 season. Chris Buescher controls his RFK Mustang during the 2024 Daytona 500. (Photograph by Joel Bray, Jayski.com). Buescher ran the Fastenal paint scheme in 15 of the 36 races during the 2024 Nascar Cup season. The 17 team had an average finish of 14.3. Presumably, since Fastenal sponsored nearly half of the races, Buescher's average finish with the company was a slightly lower, 18.2. The team's best result in the Fastenal Ford Mustang was a 5th place finish at Lauden (New Hampshire) in race number 18. Notes: I was able to find this model in the bargain bin at the Lionel brick and mortar shop at Concord Mills in Charlotte, NC. There were several dozen of these available, and even though I took my time to try and compare this one to that one, I still ended up with a copy that has serval production errors. In fact, it's amazing to see how many of these cars get through quality control, if such a thing at Lionel even exists. That being said this 1/64 is in pretty good condition construction wise, but the paintwork has some annoying issues, and the decal placement is sloppy. Foil numbers are an up-charge these days, so if you're going to ask for more money to make them, at lest apply them so that they are level, and don't slide under the fender! This car makes a nice companion to team owner, Brad Keselowski's Fastenal BodyGuard Mustang, so at least we have that. Sources:
