The real thing: Kurt Busch, driver of the #45 Jordan Brand Toyota, drives during the NASCAR Cup Series AdventHealth 400 at Kansas Speedway on May 15, 2022 (Photo by Chris Graythen/Getty Images) I was at Darlington Speedway the week before Kurt won this race at Kansas. He started from the third row (just as he did at Kansas), but had a fast car, and were it not for a late race crash, he would have notched his 5th top 10 finish of the season. An impressive stat considering how young of an organization 23XL was at the time. Instead, he'd not only earned a top 5 the following week, but he'd solidify his final cup win as well. Going out in spectacular fashion, meeting fellow competitor and team owner Denny Hamlin on pit road for an emotional post race embrace. This was also the first time the Jordan brand would find victory lane in Nascar. A truly paramount moment in Nascar. Kurt led 116 laps including the last one on a truly dominant day. Notes:
Lionel's execution of this car is really good. A lot of that has to do with the replication of the Jordan brand elephant print paint job. It also brilliantly replicates the grit and grime from the track that day. And the air intake grade looks real enough to make you double check that it isn't. But the car is lacking in other details. Unfortunately, Coca-Cola, the parent company of Monster Energy refuses to allow their brand to be replicated in Nascar, that or, no one is willing to pay the company merchandising royalties. Which is a real shame because of how great this car looks with the Monster logo, but equally, how incomplete it looks without it. There are some other race details that were not added to the car, but largely, this is a nice replica of an iconic race car.
