Gold Line: Kyle Larson '24 Indy 500/Coke 600' Two Car Set

On the eve of Kyle Larson's second attempt of 'the double,' it seemed appropriate to take a look at this 1/64 scale two pack commemorating last year's (2024) Indy 500 and Coke 600. The set features the two cars Kyle Larson drove, or intended to drive rather, on Sunday, May 26th. The 108th Indy 500 was unfortunately delayed in 2024, and while Larson finished all 200 laps and finished 18th for the Arrow McLaren team, he'd reach the Coke 600 late. On a recent trip to Concord, North Carolina, I stopped at the Hendrick Motorsports campus and the Hendrick Museum. The museum gift shop has a wide selection of Nascar diecast race cars from many different eras, scales, and drivers. In the photograph below, you can see the Kyle Larson set among other 2 car sets commemorating various HMS events and victories. Unlike the other sets, this one features two castings from two different diecast manufacturers. The number 5 Chevy Camaro is made by Lionel Racing, and the Arrow McLaren Indy car is made by Greenlight Collectables. It's quite unusual to have two products made by two different companies offered together, so this is a very unique set without considering how rare it is for Nascar drivers to attempt to do both of these historic races. Larson will once again attempt to complete both of these races again in 2025, but beyond that, there are no known plans for any such attempt to be made again.

Notes:
This little set is packed with features. From the packaging, to the cars themselves, there's a ton of detail to take in. Even though Larson's first attempt at the double went poorly, and he didn't even get the chance to race a single lap in his Coke 600 Nascar Cup car, there's still and amazing story to be told. The work that goes into preparing for, and competing in both of these events is unlike anything else in the racing world. Even without giving this two-pack a detailed review, I can't recommend it enough.
