The real thing: Dave Blaney's number 93 Amoco Ultimate Dodge RT poses for photos at the beginning of the 2001 season. This car started the year with gold numbers, but shifted to red ones later in the year. (Photograph courtesy of Jayski.com) Dave Blaney's first full time season in the Cup series was truly as middling as it gets. He finished the season ranked 22nd overall. He averaged a 23rd starting position, and a 24th average finish. He was still running at the finish of 30 out of the 36 races that year, and finished on the lead lap 15 times. While this isn't anywhere near the rookie seasons of Tony Stewart, or Jimmy Johnson, this is by today's standards, quite average. Blaney's Amoco livery was the prominent livery in 2001, and he also had support from BP, and MAC Tools. Notes:
This 1/64 was made by the Racing Champions line. For being over 20 years old, the model has stood up to the test of time nicely. It was acquired from a second-hand store. The car boasts some great looking metal flake numbers, and the red white and blue stripes wrap the fuselage in a unique and pleasing way. The car certainly looks better than Blaney's rookie season statistics, so this is a welcome addition to the collection.
