Aeroclassics welcomes the new year in stride. This month we get eleven 1/400 models and a singular 1/200 DC-8. Aeroclassics provides variety once again with eight different airlines from every corner of the globe.

At first glance I wasn't too enthused about January's offerings. It appears many folks are being a bit conservative as well, being that its Saturday evening American Eastern time here, a day after the release and only one model has sold out. Although the Ethiopian and the Air Niugini are well on their way.

I personally plan on picking up the Ethiopian, the Air Niugini and the Sabena. I have my eye on a few others, but time will tell if they make it into the collection.

Let's break down the Aeroclassics January releases.

TU-154s:
Aeroclassics began producing Tu-154s in 2002. Since then, the mould has been used roughly 30 times. But it hasn't seen any real action since 2007. Aeroclassics have recently refurbished the mould though, as the winder market saw a few TU-154s off this mould sell on behalf of a brand known as 'You Models' in late 2020. And as 2021 begins it's not surprising to see Aeroclassics pump out a few of their own models. There is very seldom anything that Phoenix modes does or has that I'm interested in. But I do like their TU-154 mould more. Yes its a clone, but I personally find it to be best. As an aside, this airline has been done once before in the 90s scheme by Phoenix who did get the nose gear hight correct making that the better version.

United Tri-jets:
U.S. legacy collectors will be glad as the parade of retro United Airlines registrations continues. This month on the superb DC-10 mould we get C-GCP. Note, the Canadian registration, this aircraft was leased from Canadian Pacific in 1987. This makes the model a pretty extreme obscurity. Aeroclassics also adds another United 727-100 to the mix. This month we get one of the oldest United schemes dating back to United's entry into the jet age. This model is also representing the first ever 727.

Royal Jordanian:
Two Royal Jordanian A310s are also available this month. To my eye they are too dark! I think they are the same colors as the L1011 that was released earlier in the year (also too dark). These were long awaited for by feet builders but they don't interest me, they are probably the only A310s available from any manufacturer this month.

South America:

There are two Latin birds this month. The first, a Peruvian classic DC-8, FaucettPeru sold out in minutes. I'm not sure if it was more a matter of popularity or a shorter run, but if you didn't get one, best of luck to you. I myself was late to the party as well. It seems like Aeroclassics forgot the orange stripes on the engines. The other model in the category is the 'Aeromodern' Volaris A320 NEO. This one seems perfectly serviceable and is a nod to those clamoring for more South American representation. On a side not, the presented photos are very poor and blurry, but the paint work on the Volaris looks very suspect.

The best of the rest:
Finally, the last of the group will be the three that I've chosen. The Ethiopian 727-200 looks great but it does seem to have the same printing issue that the 707s and 767s were showing in regard to their lion over the red strip. No one else will be making this one anytime soon however, so there isn't any real choice in the matter. The Air Niugini is the second in the last three months. I'm not too excited about some of the silver paint work, but I'll reserve judgment until the model is in hand. Finally, the Sabena A310 is a really good looking mode. I hope all is in order when she arrives!

Conclusion:
After taking each model for its own individual uniqueness, Aeroclassics has done it once again. Another month, and no one can come close to offering what Aeroclassics can. I do have some reservations about some of the paint and print work that I'm seeing, but the truth will be revealed when this months selections arrive in the next week.
