Phoenix Models, Air Jamaica: 6Y-JMP

It's been years since Phoenix Models was turning out so many unique and interesting scale model airplanes. Air Jamaica established its brand on a global scale in the early 00's when it took delivery of three A340-300 aircraft that served on international routes. The long haul aircraft decorated in a vibrant livery now have a special place in aviation history. We've never had a more detailed 1/400 version of this aircraft in the scale. Aero Polaris, Singapore Airlines 737-800: 9V-MGM

Aero Polaris is a newer brand in the 1/400 scale model space. They've released 30 models to date going back to November 2024, and today's POTD subject is their first ever release. Part number HA7380001 is based on the Singapore Airlines 737 registered as 9V-MGM. The aircraft itself isn't really noteworthy, but having a legacy carrier as part of your initial release set is a good strategic move. Collecting national flag carriers is a primary objective when collecting 1/400 scale models. Airlines representing African countries are sometimes very hard to find because many other hobbyists also share the same objective. In 2024, the 1/400 scale market boasted unprecedented growth and development. Nearly every major brand brought new castings, airlines, and partners into the fold. Aeroclassics, Kuwait Airways A300B4: 9K-AHG

Perhaps the coming Panda Models A300 mould has been the catalyst for increased A300 production from Aeroclassics. By my count there have been about eight A300's released in the past 8-10 months, compared to just three from between 2022-2024. While the recent Panda products have shown great potential, the Aeroclassics casting remains the best, for now. Phoenix Models, Air Namibia 767-33AER: V5-NMB

National Airlines and flag carriers have long been an interest of mine, and one of my main criteria points when it comes to collecting. Air Namibia was the lone and longistanding flag carrier of the African nation, Namibia. The airline was founded in 1946, but it didn't become a serious pax carrier, or flag carrier until the late 1980's. The airline which was wholly owned by the Namibian government was shut down in 2021 after enduring years of financial turmoil. For a closer look, read on.

JC Wings, Saudi Arabian A320-214: HZ-AS12

It is often the ultra long haul, and wide-bodied aircraft that receive the most attention in 400 scale. This is even more true when considering the coverage Middle Eastern airlines typically get in the hobby. So medium range aircraft, like this Saudi A320-214 aren't typically well represented. Saudia operates over 50 A32X airframes, for example, and the 1/400 scale only offers about seven examples of A32X models. Three of the seven are from JC Wings, and one of those three is the only sandy-toned A320 in 1/400 scale.

Aeroclassics, Aeroflot Ilyushin IL-18A: CCCP-75634

With a growing demand for passenger air service in the 1950's, a Soviet Council of Ministers' directive was to develop an engine capable of meeting those requirements for both Ilyushin and Antonov.
