It's been years since Phoenix Models was turning out so many unique and interesting scale model airplanes. Air Jamaica established its brand on a global scale in the early 00's when it took delivery of three A340-300 aircraft that served on international routes. The long haul aircraft decorated in a vibrant livery now have a special place in aviation history. We've never had a more detailed 1/400 version of this aircraft in the scale. For a closer look at this model from August 2024, read on.

There aren't many airlines from Papua New Guinea. There are even fewer 1/400 models to represent the airlines of that country. Air Niugini is the only traditional airline that have seen representatives produced on its behalf. To date, there have been seven 1/400 scale models made, and six of them are from Air Niugini. The national flag carrier has been active since 1973, and continues to operate a modest fleet of various types of aircraft today. There were three A310s that flew for Air Niugini, and one of them is today's POTD candidate. For a closer look at P2-ANA, read on...

Aero Polaris, Singapore Airlines 737-800: 9V-MGM

Aero Polaris is a newer brand in the 1/400 scale model space. They've released 30 models to date going back to November 2024, and today's POTD subject is their first ever release. Part number HA7380001 is based on the Singapore Airlines 737 registered as 9V-MGM. The aircraft itself isn't really noteworthy, but having a legacy carrier as part of your initial release set is a good strategic move. Not a lot is known about Aero Polaris, but the newer brand uses moulds with some striking similarities to NG models. For a closer look at their first ever model, read on...

In 2025, NG Models utilized their MD casting to launch the model company's first ever MD-87 aircraft in 1/400 scale. In February, three SAS MD-87s were released onto the 1/400 scale market. Each aircraft was released wearing the 'red engins' livery from the late 90's that lasted until almost 2020. Today's subject is the Norwegian registered LN-RMU. The aircraft was delivered in 1992 and was one of twenty one MD-87s that Scandinavian Airlines operated. For a closer look at this model, read on...

The United Arab Emirates is unique in many ways. The federal semi-constitution monarch is home to over ten million people. It is a rapidly growing region in the Middle East and also supports two airlines that are recognized flag carriers which is rather unique (Etihad and Emirates). Etihad endured significant financial turmoil through much of the 2010s. But now 21 years old, and 97 aircraft strong, the airline is word renowned and has been recognized recently for an impressive turn around. A6-BMA is one of ten 787-10's in the fleet and is today's featured model. For more, read on...

NG Model, Kuwait Airways A330-243: PK-APA

As I work to continue building my national flag carrying fleets, a new A330 arrived this week which assists in modernizing the representation of the middle eastern country, Kuwait. The airline has seen a substantial amount of attention in 1/400 scale over the last five years with over 20 models either announced or already produced. Today's example is from 2021. While this isn't the most modern rendition of the Kuwait Airways livery, and the airplane this model is based on is already out of the fleet, it's still a very nice looking diecast on based on the superb NG mould, for more, read on...

The Republic of Maldives is the smallest nation in Asia. Reaching independence in 1965, the small archipelagic country is home to just over a half a million people. Situated about 400 miles from mainland Asia, the country's remote location is dependent on both shipping and air service. The Maldivian government directs the Island Aviation Services and that oversees the flag carrying airline, Maldivian. The fleet is primarily made up of turboprops, but it also operates an A330, and this A320. For a closer look at this model from Phoenix, read on...

Gemini Jets, Air Australia A320-212: VH-YQC

What ended up being a very short-lived brand, Air Australia also marked the shuttering of its larger parent company that was originally founded as a freight broker. Strategic Airlines began operating in the early 90's, but after the departure of several of the company's top brass in 2011, a last ditch effort to save the operation came in the form of a rebrand. Because most of the airline's assets were leased, the company had very little value. The new name did little to help, and the airline was eventually liquidated.

Aeroclassics, Air Algerie 737-2D6: 7T-VEG

Algeria is one of the largest, most populous, and wealthiest countries in Africa. Made powerful by its vast oil and gas reserves, and exporting them, mainly to Europe, the country frequently flies under the radar in international matters. Air Algerie is the nation's flag carrier, and the largest pax carrier in the country. The airline primarily operates out of Algiers International Airport, Houari Boumediene. Air Algerie currenly uses a relatively modern fleet of A330s, ATE 72, and 737-800s. The 800s replaced older 200s like this one, 7T-VEG, for a closer look, read on...

Aeroclassics, Air Afrique 737-242C: F-GFVK

There have been approximately 300 Boeing 737-1/2s created by Aeroclassics. Nearly a third of those have been made in the last five years, meaning that there's been a huge boom for the type lately. Because of the literal hundreds of users, there's plenty of diversity to choose from. Many 737-2s ended up in secondhand markets following use by legacy carriers, and that also means that there are plenty of exotic and unique liveries that can be made. I've got one of those examples here, an Air Afrique, 737 registered F-GFVK. For a closer look, read on...
